Mark Hampton On Decorating — Vintage Design to Inspire
Written by Brandi Jackson
Do you have items that have been a part of your life for years and are still a source of inspiration? One of the books in our back room bookshelf, that serves as an endless source of inspiration is Mark Hampton On Decorating.
The late Mark Hampton is one of America’s best-know decorators. Before he started his own firm, he was an apprentice to David Hicks and Sister Parish. His book is a collection of his columns that were featured in House & Garden. The book encapsulates his philosophy on essential room elements, styles, the use of color, accessories, room layouts, outdoor spaces and more. The color chapter is excellent not only for talking about bold colors and taking color risks, but also the importance of white. Perhaps one of the reasons that this book has appealed to so many for so long, becoming a bible of sorts among designers, is the fact that he shares with the readers how they can use the design principles in their own homes. This book is filled with beautifully rendered watercolor pictures of his designs.
A definite must have for your book collection and an endless inspirational resource, if you are lucky enough to find a copy of this book, you must snatch it up, pronto!
True classics never go out of style and this book is a true gem!
