Admit it, your mouth dropped open and your heart raced when Big revealed the custom closet that he had built for Carrie. We were all green with envy. As women, we LOVE a fabulous closet! A big beautiful closet is almost as great as a big beautiful diamond. Almost!  Touring Hollywood’s famous closets can keep us entertained for hours. Kimmora Lee Simmons made a show out of her dream closet and even gave us a new adjective to use: “fabulosity”.

Mariah

What would you do if you had a closet like Mariah Carey? Her closet, by the way, is 12,000 square feet!!!! She owns over ONE THOUSAND pairs of shoes!!! I think I just had a little heart attack! Other famously desirable closets belong to Paula Abdul (only 5,000 square feet), Nicky Hilton (two over-stuffed closets and over 200 designer handbags) and of course, Kim Kardashian.

We have to admit though, the piece de resistance of closets belongs to Victoria Beckham. Not only does she win with the hunky hubby award, her closet is by far the most impressive of all celebrity closets. It is rumored that her closet cost $500K to build, including leather floors and a lavish Baccarat crystal chandelier. Living up to her name, Posh Spice has a closet that is packed with a wide array of amazing clothes and shoes. Not only is it full of clothes and accessories, but also with state-of-the art technologies such as a 360-degree viewing camera (so she can see what she looks like from all angles) and a computer that tells her how many times she has worn a specific clothing piece. Sources say that Victoria’s collection of clothes, shoes, purses and accessories is so vast that she has to store it in multiple rooms. Having so much, but still willing to give back, the Beckhams hosted the holy grail of thrift sales. In November 2013 they cleaned out their closets to help raise money for the Red Cross and victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Which celebrity owns your favorite closet? More importantly, how can you make your closet a little more fabulous? What we really love about these celebrity closets is the boutique feel. There are many affordable and extravagant closet systems available to organize your duds. Start by grouping your clothes by type: pants, skirts, shirts, dresses, etc. Then break it down further and group by style: button-down, short sleeve, long sleeve, dressy, casual.  Finally, group by color and then gradient hues within the color. Store your special occasion shoes individually in plastic boxes to keep them dust free and ready for that special date. We found a great pin on Pinterest to help inspire your organization marathon.

Remember, the rule of thumb for organizing is if you haven’t worn it within a year, toss it! To save on space, use large plastic containers or under the bed storage. No one said that you had to be in the dark inside your closet, so add a chandelier to give it some sparkle and an area rug for panache. Invest in wooden coat hangers for style and add to the life of your clothes. Here is your inspiration, so…what are you waiting for? It’s time to start spring cleaning and put the “fabulosity” back in your wardrobe.
